Snuff Better Than Cigarettes

Snuff is back - and in a big way. People are chewing to get their nicotine fix in No Smoking areas. But is it safe? According to this story in The (Colorado Springs) Gazette, chewing is safer than smoking, according to some health experts. But others strongly disagree, and that has caused debate about whether tobacco products should have various ratings based on danger level.

UK: Sell Smokes Under the Counter

In the UK, a new law will force businesses to sell tobacco products under the counter. The move is to limit youth access to cigarettes and other dangerous products. It will also require bars and restaurants to remove cigarette vending machines.

The Times has the details of the legislation, which will go into effect later in spring.

Would National Tobacco Tax Decrease U.S. Smoking Rates?

In Indonesia, officials are pushing for a higher cigarette tax to lower tobacco use, improve public health and generate more revenue for the government. According to a study commissioned by the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance, the cigarette tax increases could lower the number of smokers by nearly 9 percent. People who quit smoking would likely spend more money on healthy eating. (Read more at The Earth Times.)
