Some of my favorite illustrations are on cigarette ads and packages.
Despite the dangers of cigarettes and their tobacco counterparts, I cannot help but appreciate some of the whimsical, vintage-inspired art that makes cigarettes cool. My favorite modern art is usually associated with the Camel brand - like the 80s-inspired art above found at IllustratorWorld.com. Vintage cigarette ads always catch my eye. (Ironically, I cannot stand smoking in modern films, but find it completely normal in black and white old Hollywood cinema.)
Of course, if a 30-something like myself is wowed by the art, you know it is incredibly appealing to youth, who always want to look cool and be part of something unique.
A recent study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health shows that packaging is key to snagging youth smokers. The more bland the package, the less likely they are to try them.
You can find more details on the study at Health Behavior News Service.
