After months of debate, President Obama is set to sign into law the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. It would allow the Food and Drug Administration to flex its muscle against Big Tobacco.
Some still criticize the move, saying the FDA cannot handle what is currently on its plate, let alone another issue. Others are worried that it will ultimately create a monopoly for Philip Morris, which supported the bill.
There are some terrific articles and blogs about the bill online. Reason has an excellent blog noting the problems that could occur with FDA rule.
